Today, June 27th, Governor John Carney signed HB 222, which is also known as the ‘Red Flag’ law. The law will provide family members and law enforcement with a mechanism to prevent loved ones from obtaining or using firearms, if they can show that the respondent poses a danger to self or others: “This Act would allow the Superior Court to issue a lethal violence protection order where a family member or a law enforcement officer can show that the [potential] [buyer] poses a danger to self or others by owning, possessing, controlling, purchasing or receiving a firearm.”
